Wearing short dresses was a taboo for me, confesses Divyanka Tripathi

New Delhi: Divyanka Tripathi aka Ishita Bhalla is currently ruling the TV Industry. But she has also made many compromises to survive in the glamour world.

In an interview to leading daily Hindustan Times, the ‘Yeh Hai Mohabbatein’ actress opened up on how wearing short dresses was a taboo for her initially.

The actress while talking to HT revealed that she did not want to be tagged as ‘behenji’ and consequently she started wearing short dresses.

“I played a simple girl in Banoo Main Teri Dulhan (2006) and after that everyone thought I am like that in real life too. It was when I entered Comedy Circus in 2013 that I actually opened up because I realised that if I don’t wear short clothes, people will have this notion that Divyanka is a ‘behenji’ and she cannot do anything but wear conservative clothes and look sober. As an actor, I really had to break this thought,”Divyanka told Hindustan Times.

The also revealed that how people indirectly made fun of her simplicity.

She said,”People indirectly cracked jokes in front of me about how they looked at me as a plain Jane. I realised that instead of expecting good acting out of me, they would just expect me in sarees and suits. I wanted to change their perception. I started wearing short clothes for the character… it was very uncomfortable for me.”

The actress recently bagged six awards for her portrayal in ‘Yeh Hai Mohabbatein’ at the recently-held Star Parivaar Awards.

In the complaint Choubey accused Ajaz of sending her improper messages and photograph.

“I am really saddened. I am being made into a punching bag. I met this girl at a party through an actor-friend Javed Rizvi (who was in the film “Lakeer Ka Fakeer” with me). That’s it,” Ajaz said.

“I have nothing more to do with her. If this is the way one gets repaid for being kind to a stranger then I would advise all actors to not even say hello to newcomers out of kindness,” he added.

Anil’s ’24: Season 2′ trailer out; Aamir, Sonam lend support

Mumbai: The action-packed trailer of ’24: Season 2′ starring actor-producer Anil Kapoor was unveiled here on Wednesday in the presence of his star daughter Sonam Kapoor and superstar Aamir Khan.

Anil is all set to return as Anti-Terrorism Squad agent Jai Singh Rathore in the espionage thriller, which will be aired on Colors from July 17 onwards.

Dressed in a black-and-white formal wear, which matched with his daughter’s outfit, Anil said: “It took us a while to get the second season of the show. I work in films also. So, it’s tough for me. I had to complete ‘Dil Dhadakne Do’ and ‘Welcome Back’. We needed a lot of preparation as well.”

“Writing takes time. Hopefully, the gap won’t be so much next time.”

The first season of “24”, the Indian adaptation of the popular American TV show, was launched in India in 2013.

So, is the third season already on mind of the makers?

“We would like to see the second season’s response first,” Colors CEO Raj Nayak told IANS.

While that is yet to be decided, the second season promises to keep the audience hooked to it.

The trailer shows how Anil’s character Rathore is haunted by his past. The agent, who had earlier put terrorist Roshan Sherchan in prison, is now on a mission to save Mumbai from the threat of a virus.

Talking about the stunts in the show, Anil said: “My body is all bruised. I had to go to a physiotherapist as well. In fact, some of the stuntsmen also got injured, but everyone is fit to work relentlessly.”

His friend Aamir is also looking forward to the show.

“The show has been praised by so many people. I’m sure the second season will go beyond that. I like the energy of Anil. It is unique. He also has childlike curiosity. I love that about him,” he said.

After watching the trailer, Aamir looked amazed and compared the TV show to a film.

“It’s like watching a movie. It’s wonderful to see this quality of work happening on television,” he shared.

Asked if Aamir would play a role in the upcoming show, Anil said: “I would love him to be part of the show. I know even if we approach him for it, he won’t say no. But the show isn’t star-driven. Be it Shabana Azmi or Anupam Kher, we all played characters.”

Anil also added that Aamir inspires him. Like Aamir, Anil also completely focused on his TV show.

“When Aamir did ‘Satyamev Jayate’, he didn’t take up any other project. I also haven’t done anything else for last one year. I completely focussed on ’24’. I got an exciting international project. I was expected to shoot in July, but I had to pass that offer,” said the actor, who has featured in Hollywood projects including “Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol”.

“It’s not about money. We are doing it because we love ’24’,” he added.

“24: Season 2” also stars Sakshi Tanwar, Surveen Chawla, Ashish Vidyarthi, Sikander, Harsh Chhaya, Neil Bhoopalam, Sapna Pabbi and Sudhanshu Pandey.

Pratyusha’s parents launch signature campaign for CBI probe

Jamshedpur: The signature campaign launched by parents of late TV actress Pratyusha Banerjee to garner support for a CBI probe into her unnatural death received good response as over 1000 people signed in favour of the demand today.

“Till now, more than 1000 people have signed on the banner supporting our demand for a CBI probe into the death of Pratyusha,” who allegedly committed suicide on April 1 in Mumbai, her father Sankar Banerjee said.

There is no space left in the banner but people are still putting their signature on it,” said Banerjee, who was accompanied by his wife Soma and other relatives.

The signature campaign began at 5 PM and was to continue till 8 PM at Bata Chowk in Sakchi market, he said expressing satisfaction over the response.

Today’s campaign is preceded by an online campaign today where around 700 people have already shown their support for a CBI probe.

“We have lost everything and it is now the people and media support that could help meet our demand. But if it fails to evoke any positive response, we will be left with no option but to seek euthanasia,” the father of ‘Balika Badhu’ fame actor said.

He demanded capital punishment for Pratyusha’s boyfriend Rahul Raj Singh, who, they alleged, have murdered their daughter in cold blood.

Banerjee said they would meet Jharkhand Chief Minister Raghubar Das and Jharkhand Women’s Commission Chairperson tomorrow at Ranchi to seek their support for CBI support to unearth the mystery behind Pratyusha’ s death.

“My daughter can never commit suicide,” he said.

Rahul Raj Singh was booked for abatement of suicide and criminal intimidation in connection with her death.

I can’t do daily soaps: Rannvijay

Mumbai:  He may have won hearts by hosting several reality TV shows, but actor Rannvijay Singh says he does not see himself being a part of daily soaps.

Rannvijay, best known as the host of “Roadies”, says he consistently refused offers to star in ‘saas-bahu’ serials.

“I don’t think so I can do a daily soap. If I had to, I would’ve done it when I started getting offers (at the age of) 24-25, sometime around 2005. The amount of money I don’t make now was offered, but I didn’t,” Rannvijay told PTI.

The actor, who worked in films like “Action Replay” and “London Dreams”, feels comfortable doing limited series.

“I am on for finite series. But something which doesn’t have a back story, goes on and on, I am not interested. There’s no life (in daily soaps),” he said.

“I need to earn money to live a life. If I don’t have a life, then what will I do with the money? I have enough ways to generate money by doing things I love,” Rannvijay said.

The actor will be next seen with Bollywood star Sunny Leone co-hosting season 9 of MTV reality show “Splitsvilla”.

For the second time, Rannvijay will pair up with the “Ek Paheli Leela” star for the show.

“She (Sunny) is a fun loving person, doesn’t stress about small things or throws tantrums. She gets involved and then it becomes easier to be part of the show. It is always amazing to work with her,” he said.

‘Splitsvilla’ season 9 will have 15 men (warriors) trying to woo six women (princesses) and has the tag line, “where women rule”.

Rannvijay says the change in the show’s format was much needed for keeping up with today’s times.

“I liked that it changed, otherwise the question arises why are you doing it again and again. Something like this had to be done, to let people know that women are equal to men. It may take years for people to completely accept that, but we have to do it,” he said.

The show premiers on June 11.

I am biased towards positive roles: Roop Durgapal

Mumbai: Actress Roop Durgapal, best known for her roles in shows like “Balika Vadhu” and “Swaragini”, says she is “biased” towards playing positive characters.

“I have so far played a variety of roles and enjoyed all of them. But I am biased towards positive roles because I love staying peaceful and bringing smiles on people’s faces,” Roop, who is currently seen in “Kuch Rang Pyar Ke Aise Bhi”, said in a statement.

“Negative roles have a lot of drama and spice whereas positive roles calm you down. They are slower in pace as compared to the former,” she added.

Talking about her dream role, Roop shared: “I would go crazy with happiness if someday I am offered the roles that Kajol played in ‘Kuch Kuch Hota Hai’ and ‘Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge’, and Deborah Kerr’s part in Hollywood movie ‘An Affair to Remember'”.

Roop, married to Deepak N, a creative director in a sports channel, has always tried to keep her personal life separate from her professional one.

“Well, that is because I was very clear from the start that the talking point should always be my work and my private life should be kept separate from my professional life,” Roop said.

“That’s the arrangement I am comfortable with. But certainly there is romance in my life as I am happily married and people close to me know about it. But I don’t feel the need to shout about it from the rooftop as we both are very private people,” she added.
